| The Kolkata-based Eden Group has been around for over a century now, slowly establishing its various verticals in the city. Its journey began when a young Marwari trader, like many of his peers, migrated from Rajasthan in the early 19th century and set up a small business in Assam and Bengal. The family established itself first in the hardware trade and then the tea business, having seen immense opportunity in the latter in the 1920s. In the past two decades, the group has diversified into real estate, textile manufacturing as well as information technology, while at the sae time maintaining a flourishing tea business. Group managing directors and brothers, Ashok Modi and Dinesh Modi, have been managing a bouquet of tea estates and factories since 1991, after which they started looking at real estate. Today, real estate and tea form the group\\\'s main vertials. The Eden Group also has two other directors, Aditya Agarwal and Sachin Lakhwani, who are close family friends of the Modis. | |

Anirudh Modi, director, Eden Group, told FC Estate, “These days people are very brand conscious, or shall I say brand loyal. Whatever they buy, they always look fbr a trusted brand. We always wanted to build a brand that whenever a customer looks for a home that’s value for money, one looks for our brand.’ “In Konkona Sen Sharma’s on-and-off screen image we found a tremendous brand connect. So far, she has always played an honest woman, an intelligent woman and a person of substance with unquestionable professional competence and yet down-to-earth. And that’s exactly how we want to build our brand. Those are the characteristics we want our brand to get associated with,’ Modi said. The group is developing 32 prnjects (nearly 25 lakh sq ft over the next couple of years) and 56,000 sq ft commercial spaces, which include Eden Roma. Eden Elegante and Eden Tolly Lakeside. The whole idea of the group is to offer facilities and amenities of top-end housing at an affordable rate. The premium housing complex, which the company is developing is Eden Tolly Signature. “This is going to be a lifestyle property at the cost of an MIG (middle-income group) apartment. The property over 500,000 sq ft will house 400-odd residential units. The apartments will cost Rs 2,000 per sq ft, Modi said. | |
